Our approach is collaborative as we co-create educational resources that are based on research and developed through direct-experiences with educators, students and community partners.
Our Work
Opportunity:
PSFS sought fresh strategies to connect with diverse student groups and transform STEM/STEAM learning into an engaging, inclusive, and meaningful experience. The goal was to inspire curiosity and creativity while ensuring the approach resonated across different cultural contexts.
Deliverables:
Aligned with the BC curriculum, this project integrates STEM/STEAM activities designed with clear learning outcomes, teaching guides, and assessments. It features thoughtfully selected stories from local and international voices, complemented by activities tested for effectiveness and relevance.
Process:
Bridging Indigenous Science with Western scientific concepts required a thoughtful approach, especially in conservation and sustainability education. STEMedge serves as a trusted partner, advisor, and program developer, fostering energy literacy that integrates science and the arts. In partnership with the design team at Kidzsmart Inc., we craft educational content rooted in BC curriculum standards and supported by established curricular theories.
Opportunity:
Science World, a hub for science exploration visited by the public and local students, sought fresh ways to engage younger audiences by blending science with the arts in public spaces. The team aimed to reimagine science learning through storytelling and diverse perspectives, creating opportunities to inspire curiosity and build scientific literacy.
Deliverables:
An online storytelling platform was developed to link current outdoor exhibits with the rich history of the local area, offering carefully curated stories and information to support public learning. Comprehensive science facilitator training was provided, focusing on effective public outreach grounded in established curricular theories.
Process:
The challenge of weaving Indigenous Science with Western understandings of core scientific concepts needed careful refining when it comes to conservation and sustainability learning. STEMedge is a long-term, trusted partner, advisor, and program developer to ensure energy literacy connects science with the arts. In collaboration with a design team at Kidzsmart Inc., we create and develop teaching and learning content aligned to the BC curriculum backed by published curricular theories.
Opportunity:
Kidzsmart set out to bring STEM/STEAM learning to their clients, building on their expertise in the edutainment space. Recognizing a gap between entertaining kids and fostering meaningful STEM learning, they aimed to bridge the two and create deeper connections for young learners.
Deliverables:
Provided consultative and advisory support to reimagine and enhance existing science outreach strategies for Kidzsmart clients. Offered strategic guidance on STEM/STEAM education to strengthen client proposals and deepen understanding of the educational market. Co-partnered in delivering all BC Hydro Power Smart for Schools initiatives.
Process:
STEMedge Inc. has been a trusted advisor and collaborator for Kidzsmart, providing expertise in curriculum-aligned approaches to integrating STEM and the arts. Together, they have worked with clients including BC Hydro Power Smart for Schools, eONE Entertainment, TRIUMF, and more, shaping innovative educational strategies.
Opportunity:
Grokolli, an emerging start-up in the AI and math learning community, offers a platform that adapts to each learner's pace in mastering core mathematical concepts. It provides a responsive and personalized approach to support student success. Grokolli aimed to solve the gaps in math education, curriculum, and at-home learning.
Deliverables:
In a consultative and advisory capacity, provided expertise on the latest curricular theories in math education and the integration of STEM learning theories into a technology-based platform. Offered guidance on aligning the platform with American NGSS standards to ensure effective learning outcomes.
Process:
STEMedge partnered with Grokolli's founders and developers, offering advisory support to share effective learning strategies for tackling challenging math concepts.
Opportunity:
The VBGA sought to create teaching resources that foster a stronger connection between people and plants, with a particular focus on addressing the lack of educational materials for the Bloedel Conservatory.
Deliverables:
An online teaching resource platform was developed, offering unit-based content complete with teaching notes, activities, extensions, and assessments aligned with the BC K-12 curriculum. In addition, through STEMedge’s connections in the global learning space, carefully curated stories were integrated into the resources, ensuring cultural relevance and responsibility.
Process:
STEMedge’s founder collaborated with the VBGA educational team to create the Conservatory’s first virtual learning experience. In response to challenges related to accessibility and the need for resources connecting Conservatory plants with local communities, we developed and tested online teaching materials for educators across British Columbia.
Opportunity:
Oppti, now part of STEMuli, was a US-based startup focused on career preparation and training for high school students. As a new company, they needed guidance on best practices for online learning tailored to high school students. Oppti aimed to create a blended learning model that combined asynchronous and synchronous online learning, culminating in an industry internship.
Deliverables:
A comprehensive Canvas online learning course was developed, featuring clear learning outcomes, intentions, activities, rubrics, and assessments, all while connecting the content to culturally diverse contexts. Training was also provided to the educational and development team to ensure effective implementation and delivery.
Process:
In an advisory and consultative role, STEMedge helped develop strategies for online learning and educator training. Our team assisted Oppti in creating their first online learning course on Canvas and provided training to their development team on how to design and deliver effective online courses.
Opportunity:
The SCWIST Youth Engagement team recognized their key role in promoting STEM/STEAM to Indigenous communities across Canada, with a particular focus on inspiring Indigenous youth.
Deliverables:
STEMedge developed and delivered tailored science facilitator training, updated teaching and learning materials, and led the creation of SCWIST’s first Indigenous Youth-focused STEM camp and day workshops. We facilitated these camps, collaborating with Elders and traditional knowledge keepers to ensure culturally relevant and responsible teaching practices.
Process:
STEMedge led the creation and development of SCWIST’s first Indigenous STEM camp and workshop, designed for both youth and adults with a focus on science. Drawing from our founder's expertise in rethinking traditional science teaching methods, STEMedge provided facilitator training that introduced decolonial practices aimed at fostering stronger relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in the science education space.
